A Few Neighborly Reminders
Summer is when the neighborhood looks its best, and a few small habits go a long way toward keeping it that way. None of what follows is new.
Refuse containers. Trash and recycling containers should be stored out of view from the street—in a garage, behind the home, or otherwise screened. Sometimes we're out of town before or after trash pickup, and might put out containers early or leave them a day or two later. On occasion, this is fine. But the general rule is that containers may be placed at the curb the evening before collection and should be returned to storage the same day pickup occurs.
Cans left standing in driveways for unreasonable periods of time, or stored in plain view is not permitted.
Trailers, boats, campers and RVs. These may not be stored in driveways or anywhere else in open public view. Short-term loading, unloading, cleaning, and storage are of course fine; ongoing, perpetual storage is not. Again, the HOA will happily make reasonable accommodations for reasonable needs.
Grass clippings. Please discharge clippings back onto your own lawn or bag them–not into the street. Clippings in the roadway wash straight into the storm drains and, from there, into our retention pond. This can plug drainage and cause flooding, damage the pond's ecosystem, and block ultimate drainage to the river. Any of these problems will cost the HOA money that we all have to pay for. It is in everyone's interests to properly handle lawn waste. They are also slick and genuinely dangerous to motorcyclists, runners, and the like.
Lawn maintenance. Lawns should be mowed and maintained on a regular basis so that grass and weeds do not become overgrown. If you are traveling, or if a mower is down for repair, again, we are not looking to micro-manage or impose subjective views on aesthetics. But we all know what is acceptable and what is not.
